Is there anybody out there?

Life has sailed on without me updating my blog for too long. A recent check on my website caused me to mentally hang my head in shame at how old the ‘newest’ blog on there was – in fact, it’s been so long that I had to get in touch with lovely Simon who looks after my site to get a new username and password for the blog login as I’d forgotten the old ones.
I’ll be honest, my reasons for starting this up again are largely self-serving. Some of you might be aware of my creative ‘wobble’ last week, when 2 hours spent working on my laptop on a Sunday evening had yielded no fruits at all, and had in fact made me feel like jacking the whole thing in, and going back to work for someone else in an office or a shop, as I have done in the past. I expressed my frustrations on Facebook, and lots of lovely friends and even people I’ve never met basically gave me a virtual friendly shove and told me to stop being a massive doofus. It made me realise that a lot of my annoyance and frustration stemmed from working by myself every day, and having no-one to bounce ideas off or get advice from.
Now, I’m not asking for sympathy, here – I know many, many people would give their right arms and possibly their souls to be their own bosses and work from home. However, there are definitely pros and cons to being self-employed as there are to being employed by someone else, and in my usual analytical, self-help way, I’m attempting to identify why I’m stuck in a bit of a rut and what I can do to get out of it. Short of paying some friends to come and sit in my studio with me and big me up, I figured the next best thing would be to engage with people via social media.
This blog is hopefully going to be a way of conversing with anyone who’s interested about art, self-employment or otherwise, Life, and everything in between. I’ll be posting every Monday from now on, it would be great to hear from you if you have any questions about my art, your art, practical issues you’re having with your painting even if it’s your hobby rather than your profession….anything at all. I’m not a trained artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I am a practising artist, so I might be able to offer some help/tips. And any tips you want to pass on, also would be greatly appreciated!
I’ll be sharing some photos and videos of paintings I’m working on, too. At the moment, I’m busy with commissions for Christmas, which I can’t share too much about as obviously they’re gifts, but certainly with my own work and plans for the future, I’ll happily post progress photos and information.
Bingo, I feel better already! ☺️
